Soberity and Christianity

Ephesians 5:1 Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children 2 and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

3 But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God's holy people. 4 or should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.

The nature of the Christian walk requires deep conviction and soberity. Verse 3 very clearly states that not even a hint of these sins must in the Christian. It is interesting that this passage uses the word hint, it doesn't say some or little it basically says NONE! Verse 4 then explains the deep commitment and seriousness to Christianity. No foolish or wasteful talking, nor any coarse or non-important jokes. I am not say Christians must be boring, I am saying Christians must have a level of soberity in their walk! What a challenge to me! I am often content to live a "fun" life without any sort of commitment to the cause of Christ. The Christian life requires soberity.
